What causes are you connected to?

For me this is difficult to answer. I don't have one single charity I'm crazy connected to or super insane passionate about. I basically just donate to causes as the mood strikes and/or when something gets my attention. The number one organization I donate to lately has been Goodwill because I'm going through a purge phase and rather than try to deal with a yard sale I'm just giving them my stuff in hopes they can sell it in a thrift store to help those in need.

Goodwill's mission is "...to enhance the dignity and quality of life of individuals and families by strengthening communities, eliminating barriers to opportunity, and helping people in need reach their full potential through learning and the power of work."

I believe as they do that "Every person has the opportunity to achieve his/her fullest potential and participate in and contribute to all aspects of life."

I also believe in doing all I can for the search for cures for miscellaneous diseases/ cancers. I have a soft spot for breast cancer charities because my mother-in- law suffered with breast cancer for years. However, I believe curing any cancer would be a massive breakthrough that could yield cures for other diseases.

Ultimately I want to do everything I can to help myself, my family and anyone that I can to live a happy and healthy life to the fullest :) So I guess you could say that my causes that I'm connected to are healthiness and happiness!

Do you connect the most with the past, the present, or the future?

For too long I connected with everything but the present. All I want now is to let the past stay in the past and enjoy the present one day at a time and let the future get here when it's ready.

I wrote more about that HERE!

Wait- What? Was it two faced?

The Famous Ashley Grant AT #BlogHer13
thanks to my AWESOME peeps :)

I have always believed that if you say something nice to a person and then something mean about them to someone else you are a two faced meanie. To do it publicly, however, where the comment can be seen makes you a double meanie!

Here's what happened....

I asked my readers, friends, family, strangers, etc... for money to go to BlogHer's 2013 conference. Thanks to everyone's generosity I was in fact able to go. (Grant you I ended up spending $350 I didn't have to find a place to stay at last minute for Saturday night because of extenuating circumstances - but I digress...) Had it not been for these awesome donations and the people behind them- I would have been at home instead of the conference.

Most people were crazy nice to me about this request for donations. I got 99.9% positive feedback for handling my road to BlogHer 2013 this way.  I even received this nice comment from someone...

and then.....after seeing the nice comment above, I decided to do the normal friendly blogger thang, reply to the comment and then visit the commenter's page. It led me to a post chastising me for requesting donations in the first place. WTF? How can you say something nice one minute and then PUBLICLY say something awful about me the next? Did you REALLY think I wouldn't see it? Or did you hope I would but didn't have the courage to say it TO ME? Whatever...you are a two faced dumb meanie in my opinion!!!

Below is what I commented to  Mrs. Pancakes...

I am in fact the writer/blogger you are referring to. I’m the one that wrote ” I still have $150 left and if you donated at least $5, I would be able to make my goal so please click here to donate.”

First, I did make a very conscious effort to offer something in exchange. Every single person who donated got a shout out on the blog and if they donated more than $5 they got additional perks.

Second- The whole idea behind the asking for donations (I don’t feel I was begging) was to be able to go and be able TO afford it. If anyone was offended by my request, that was not my intention and they had the right to simply move on to the next post.

Third- Lots of people were requesting donations to go to this conference. Yes, I agree that donations to charitable causes are important. However, if funding dreams is a bad thing Kickstarter and other crowd funding sites would not exist.

Lastly- I do intend to seek other avenues to get myself to the next conference and any other event I feel the need to go to in order to keep expanding my career. I will also continue seeking donations because I feel like there is nothing wrong with that!

Have a great week and good luck with your blog :)

The comment says it is awaiting moderation and because I basically called her out on complaining ABOUT ME I am not sure she will make it live. It doesn't matter either way. I did what I had to in order to get to a conference that I believe will help me in my career. I don't feel the way I handled it was unethical in any way shape or form. Any one who didn't agree with me asking for donations had the right TO NOT DONATE. That's it, plain and simple.

Update!!!! as of July 29, 2013 at 3:28 pm
She responded to me. I think we're cool now...Hope so. Can't stand blogger feuds :)

Can you connect easily with your feelings and understand where they come from?

Wow! This is quite a deep question. I almost feel as though I should be laying down on a shrink's couch to answer it. For the most part I know what causes my feelings and understand where they come from. However, there are times that I cry for no reason, laugh at inappropriate times and can go from sad to happy or vice versa as easily as snapping my fingers. My primary care physician says it's just stress, but sometimes I wonder if deep seeded thoughts in my subconscious are what cause my changes in emotions...

Mike White admits: "I guess I'm trying to write stuff that I, as a viewer, would connect to." Do you think you do this on your blog?

On this blog I write whatever I want and don't worry too too much about connection to one group. It's kind of a mish mosh of whatever is on my mind at the time so any given post can can connect to one person and then the very next post won't matter to them at all.

However, with my blogs that are related to specific subjects I a very careful to keep to the subject of the blog. For example, folks looking for money saving tips can visit my Lessons Learned From Frugal People blog, those that want to hear about freebies in Tampa can visit my Tampa Bay Freebies blog and my Living the Secret is based around the Law of Attraction.

The Black Dahlia Drink from Revenge

#BlogHer13 #Revenge

In the show #Revenge- Fauxmanda aka the "real" Emily Thorne makes a drink called The Black Dahlia. In it she puts 3 oz. Vodka, 1 oz. Creme de Cassis and a little Blackberry Liqueur. She then puts it in a martini shaker with ice, shakes it and strains it into a martini glass.

I figured- I'm at a blogging conference...can't check in until an hour from now, I'm bored and my bartender Vince is nice- what better time to try it?!?

Vince added some flair by garnishing the drink with some raspberries and voila! I had my Black Dahlia.

Verdict of this cocktail? Sooooo good! Somewhat sweet with a kick and very smooth. Would definitely order it again!!!

William Plomer defined creativity as "the power to connect the seemingly unconnected." Discuss.

I guess for me this statement is like how abstract art becomes popular. There is no reason for a rubber ducky to be sitting in a vat of oil, but hey that is what the artist saw as art. The creativity may not make sense to everyone, but to the artist it does and that's all that really matters.

It's also like how a writer can take characters that seem like they have no business being in the same novel and string a series of events together in the story that makes you effortlessly understand why they are connected.

Mimosa to Calm Flight Nerves!

#BlogHer13

I've never flown alone so I felt the urge to stop in at Shula's Bar & Grill to indulge in a mimosa. One sip in and my nerves are already much calmer. Can't wait to get to Chicago :)

My waiter Dale was super nice and made me feel so much better about the flight. Flight leaves at 9 a.m. so gotta finish this fast and head to the gate!

#BlogHer13
YAY!!! I'm so excited! Tomorrow morning at the ASH-crack of dawn I'll be heading to TIA to fly out to Chicago to attend the blogging conference I have been talking about and begging for money for for a loooooooooong time!!!

It's hard to believe how fast time flew, but I'm finally BlogHer bound in less than 24 hours and I'm looking forward to learning as much as possible and then bringing my blogging career to the next level!

One of the things I'll be doing at the conference? Singing hopefully! LOL! I found out there is a karaoke party and I totally plan to throw down some vocals on a mad beat! Yep...that sentence totally just happened. hahahaha. I won't do it again as I accept that I'm not cool enough to try to pull those kinds of sentences off. My bad!
I plan on live tweeting and live blogging from the conference. So, stay tuned to The Famous Ashley Grant for all the bloggy details :) Thanks again to all the awesome folks who donated and helped me on my way to BlogHer! Massive shout out to Jacqui for letting me stay with her in Chicago, Letty for helping me with my flight arrangements and once again- a HUGE Thank you to Venus & Mars Day Spa. They donated $100 to my fund :) Be a fan of Venus & Mars Day Spa on facebook!!

Joe Nichols said, "Being an entertainer includes knowing how to connect with an audience." Can you be a good entertainer without the connection?

Nope. If you can't capture an audiences attention, then you have already lost the game. Give them a reason to want to listen to you/ watch you. That is how an entertainer connects with his/her audience. If their attention leaves you and goes to something else, then it's game over because someone or something else will be entertaining them.

You can recapture their attention, but it's going to be harder to do that after you lose it the first time. It will take something bigger the second time around.

Yep! Now, he needs to quit trying to fix what ain't broken. Connecting is awesome on facebook but more and more people are looking to flee because of how many times the facebook team updates stuff that was already wonderful and makes it annoying to use.

Steve Jobs said: "You can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future." Discuss.

The only thing I can figure is this is referencing that you don't have to see every step towards the finish line. Sure, you can see where you have been and how you got there, but you might not now how you are going to get to your next destination. The important thing is just to keep moving forward and working towards your goals even if you don't have a clue how to make them happen.

Do you think all things are connected?

I'm guess so.  "They" say that people all are connected by 6 degrees of separation. In the bigger picture sense of things all things are connected in the sense everything is of this Earth and is Earth that binds us all to each other. In terms of things happening to cause other things I guess things are all connected to. Every action has and equal and opposite reaction; there are positives and negatives; there is a cause and an effect for every thing. So, yes...All things are connected.

Product Review - Goody Ouchless Ribbon Elastics

Recently I was sent a set of Goody Ouchless Ribbon Elastics. I received this product complimentary for testing purposes from Influenster. Although I received the product for free, I was not compensated for this post and the opinions are mine.

Okay- here's the description of these inserts. "Goody Ouchless Ribbon Elastics: $3.99-$4.99
The embodiment of fashion and comfort from America's #1 elastics brand, the new Ouchless Ribbon Elastics are the pretty solution to hot summer hair days."
Now- here's my review of this product- I really liked these little guys. They didn't tangle my hair, they didn't hurt to remove, the knots stayed in tact (I feared the knots would unravel and the elastics would just fall out of my hair) and they weren't bulky. I also loved the colors that were sent to me. The best part was when I took it out of my hair and wore it on my wrist it didn't give me one of those annoying imprints like scrunchies always seem to do. I would definitely buy these again.

Interested in trying them for yourself? You can purchase a pair at most local retailers such as Wal-Mart, Target, Walgreens, CVS, etc...

Okay- here's the description of the nail polish. "SinfulShine™ with Gel Teach™: $2.99
SinfulShine™ with Gel Teach™ technology provides opulent rich color and superb shine. The 32 trend right shades are available for a limited time exclusively at Walgreens."
Now- my review of the product... I HATED the color I received. LOL! That is honestly my ONLY complaint about this polish. I loved the way it went on smoothly. I loved the way it didn't chip during several days of wear (including doing dishes), I loved how fast it dried once I applied it and I love that it's only $2.99. I just would have preferred a different color. My mom thought it looked nice and my husband said it would look okay if I was wearing a matching blouse or dress, but I just flat out did not like the color I got. I can't wait to go and get some red, purple, pink or some other color that is more suited to me.

Product Review- Olay Fresh Effects {BB Cream!} Skin Perfecting Tinted Moisturizer with SPF 15

Recently I was sent a tube of Olay Fresh Effects {BB Cream!} Skin Perfecting Tinted Moisturizer with SPF 15. I received this product complimentary for testing purposes from Influenster. Although I received the product for free, I was not compensated for this post and the opinions are mine.

Okay- here's the description of these moisturizer. "Olay Fresh Effects {BB Cream!} Skin Perfecting Tinted Moisturizer with SPF 15: $12.99 24-hour hydration and a splash of sheer color. This all-in-one skin perfecter, sunscreen, and tinted moisturizer evens tone and refreshes dullness, for flawless looking skin (available in two shades: fair/light and light/medium)."

Now- here's my review of this product- I LOVE LOVE LOVE this moisturizer! The tint is perfect for my fair skin color, it felt really moisturizing without being greasy and it smelled nice. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who has fair colored skin and is looking for a nice moisturizer that has a little tint to it. Plus, the added benefit of the SPF 15 in it was a major plus in this Florida sunshine :)

Product Review- Dr. Scholl’s® for Her

#SunVoxBox #Influenster

Recently I was sent the Dr. Scholl’s® for Her heel inserts. I received this product complimentary for testing purposes from Influenster. Although I received the product for free, I was not compensated for this post and the opinions are mine.

Have a product that you want me to review too? Contact me HERE!

Okay- here's the description of these inserts. "Dr. Scholl’s® for Her High Heel Insoles are clinically proven to help prevent foot pain caused by wearing high heels 2” or higher. They offer immediate, long-lasting comfort and an ultra-soft gel arch shift pressure off the ball of your foot. They’re proven to improve the way you feel in heels."

Now- here's my review of this product- At first, having the insert in my shoes was really annoying. They made the shoes feel smaller and tighter and the gel made my feet feel like they were sweating. On a comfort level, they did make standing in the heels for a long period of time feel softer and better. I think I would have enjoyed them better if I had been wearing pantyhose or knee highs so that my foot was not in direct contact with the gel. I did welcome the comfort of the cushion, but it's definitely not a product I would recommend with a naked foot.

Interested in trying them for yourself? You can purchase a pair HERE.

Do you have any regrets about the connections you've made over the years?

YES! Don't we all? Okay, I take it back because every connection good or bad has made me who I am today and I wouldn't change that. However, some of the connections I had led to hard lessons to learn and I wish I could have learned the lessons without the pain, but I guess that is why the lessons stuck with me because of the pain....

Tell us about a missed connection.

I was actually just writing about this on facebook the other day. Here's what I said:

"A gal I was such good friends with suddenly stopped being my friend more than a year ago. Today I found myself thinking about her and missing her terribly. I still don't know exactly what caused her to stop talking to me and stop answering my calls/ emails, but I miss those days with her more than I think she will ever know."

I did try reaching out via facebook and email to her husband because all the methods I had to connect with her before are no longer working.

I don't know if I'll ever re-connect with her. I don't know what went wrong. All I know is I'm sorry for anything I did to pull us apart. I have my thoughts on what happened, but I can't be sure until she responds. If that day never comes I can only hope that I can forget about her and get over the pain that the void of her in my life has caused.

Yep! When I'm on vacation there is so much to do that I barely think of being online. I love being entertained and seeing new attractions. If you were trapped in an elevator, which three bloggers would you most want with you in that situation?

First off, this is a HUGE nightmare of mine. Getting trapped in an elevator scares me ALMOST as much as spiders (and I'm ridonculously scared of spiders- no really! I fled a moving vehicle because of one once). I hope and pray to all the powers that be that this nightmare NEVER comes true!!!! If it did, surely I'd pass out. However, when I come to if a sexy fireman hasn't rescued me yet I hope to find these three people stuck in the floating box with me:

For humor sake - I'd want DJ Paris from the site Thoughts From Paris. He cracks me the hell up and I'll bet it he would have me laughing so hard that I might forget for a moment that I'm deathly afraid of being trapped in a closed confined space and hanging mid air by a frikkin cable!!!

For good stories - I would love to get trapped with Kate McCulley of Adventurous Kate. I love her travel stories and would get a kick out of seeing her tell the stories live because her personality that shines through in her writing indicates to me that she is very animated when telling stories to people! That would be quite entertaining I'm sure!!!!

For a possible way out - I'd want one of those life hack bloggers. I don't have a specific blogger in mind, but someone like that could probably MacGyver us out of that damn elevator.

Tell us about the first entry on your blog.

My first blog entry was about the law of attraction on Monday, September 21, 2009 Read the post HERE.I was becoming addicted to the principles of the Law of Attraction, the book The Secret, positive thinking, etc...

I still believe wholeheartedly that positive thinking yields positive emotions and that happy thoughts yields a happy life. I don't believe I can just sit in a corner and wish for something and it will magically appear, but I do believe that moving forward in life believing good things can happen and that life can be easy does in fact bring good into your life.

I believe that trusting that my goals will come into fruition will help them do just that even if I don't know the how.

Interestingly enough the Law of Attraction just came up on my facebook page a few days ago. I was complaining that I want to stop being poor and these were the comments that followed:

Bobbie Yvonne Kingsbury said - Then everyday you need to repeat affirmations like this: "The Universe provides exactly what I need when I need it", "All of my basic needs are met and I am thankful for the abundance in my life", "My bills are always paid and I am grateful for the blessings that surround me", and "Money flows easily to me". Never say anything like "I'm broke" or "I'm poor" or "I'm sick of being poor" because those are negative thoughts. They are not thoughts of abundance or gratitude. Those that think abundantly have abundance. Those that are grateful and thankful for the many things they have NOW like running water, a hot shower, food in a refrigerator (you don't have to hunt, gather or fish to eat) etc. have more blessings and abundance than people that dwell on the lack.

Carla Mogan said- Ask, Believe, (and get out of the way of how so you can) Collect! And no need to stop at "just enough to live off" -the universe has more than that, if you want it!

The more I believe the Ask, Believe, Receive principles of the Law of Attraction, the more good things come to me so I will keep it up! In fact, my desire to explore this led to the creation of my blog Living the Secret - It's a site dedicated to the principles of the Law of Attraction. A collection of my vision boards, my affirmations, the things I want in life, ideas for how to achieve goals, products that go along with the Law of Attraction and anything else I feel like adding that adheres to the subject of the Law of Attraction. :)

What I'm Bringing to BlogHer

My #BlogHer Packing List:

Definitely bringing a camera, my new tablet (so excited I finally have one!!!), possibly my laptop too, my cell phone, my camera card reader and a bunch of business cards.

For clothes-
- I'm going to keep it simple. I'll wear stuff that can go casual or fancy depending on the accessory it's paired with.

Shoes-
- I think I'll just bring some comfy flats for day and night

Accessories-
- Turning to my mom for that since she is a rep for Premier Jewelry

Make-up-
- SUPER simple for this- tinted moisturizer, powder, eyeshadow and my Dr. Pepper LipSmackers. I frikkin love that chapstick because it feels good and it lightly tints my lips a shade of pink :)

Toiletries-
- The obvious deodorant, perfume, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner (going 2 in 1 for this bottle!) and toothbrush and toothpaste

I think that's it!

Gals that have been to BlogHer- is there something I am not thinking off that I should bring?!?

Can you spare $5? If 30 people donate $5 I will have the money to go to the BlogHer and work towards my goal of being a higher earning ProBlogger. Donate to my fund HERE! A reminder that donating $10 or more has its perks. Find those perks HERE!

15 Days to Chicago for BlogHer

#BlogHer!!!!
It hit me really hard this morning that I have 15 days until I leave for Chicago for the BlogHer 2013 conference! I have sooooooooooooooo many things still undone on my pre-BlogHer to-do list and I MUST get them done!!!!

It's like I'm going into hyperdrive to get everything the way I want it to be before I start handing out my business cards to other bloggers!!! I also know that I've GOT to make sure I get plenty of rest pre-conference because I've heard from many gals that in the days of the conference sleep doesn't exist.

I'm super psyched about this event!!! I am looking forward to meeting a crap ton of other bloggers and learning more about how to be a higher income earning problogger :)

Who was the first person you met over the Internet?

I'm assuming this prompt means the first person I met online but never actually met in person. I have no idea who that first person was because I was one of those silly gals who would wander aimlessly in to chat rooms and strike up random conversations with strangers. I remember the days of age/sex/location and then getting invites for private chats with people I didn't know and would probably never meet. Ah, the dial-up days and AOL chats tying up the phone lines...glad those days are over.

Nowadays most of the folks I meet online before meeting in person are friends of friends on facebook and then we connect in real life (lol- real life. pardon me while I LMAO at that...hahaha!!!) at networking events or parties or other things.

Do you think that it's easy or difficult for you to connect with people?

I think it was too easy for me to connect with people. Why? I was connecting with the wrong people. I've always been known as a person that is easy to talk to, easy to start a random conversation with and easy to get to know. Unfortunately folks would realize my desire for friendships and swoop in making me think we could be friend only to manipulate me, steal from me, cause drama for me, etc... That's why nowadays it's a lot harder for people to connect with me. I've been burned so many times that I always seem to have my guard up now when it comes to connecting with new folks. Sad, but true...

Who do you feel closest to in your life?

That's an easy one! My husband is the person I feel the closest too. He and I talk for hours on end about everything and nothing. He truly is my best friend, my partner in crime and in life, my lover, my confidant, my everything.

We met more than 10 years ago, married almost 7 years ago and are still as much in love today (if not more) than when we first started going together.

Our key for closeness? Communication! We have seen too many couples break up because they don't communicate. Reconnect with your significant other! Talk to them!!!

Do you think you still spend the same amount of time connecting in the face-to-face world now that socializing is so easy online?

I used to spend the same amount of time connecting face-to-face until I had to become a hermit due to being a responsible adult. Read more about that HERE. As I mentioned recently, I need to be around people. It kills me that I'm not around them more than I am now. I'm thankful for the ability to socialize online though because lately without at least that kind of interaction I would feel more lonely than I could ever tolerate. Speaking of which- anyone want to have coffee and chat over the internet? Skype? Anyone? Crickets? ugh...

As one of my friends told me it would be kind of awkward having coffee or "meeting for drinks" via Skype or some other face to face app online because in real life you don't sit looking at each other the whole time and that's really all you can do when you are video chatting...she makes a good point...I guess it could be weird to try and "hang out" via video chat and randomly take a sip of a beverage during the awkward silence moments... plus there would be no people watching and nothing to do other than look at one another. Fine- I guess that won't work...guess I'll have to just invite people over to my apartment for coffee. That just means I have to clean my place now...

Where is your favorite place to connect with friends?

I don't have a favorite place to connect with friends. I just love going out any time and hanging out anywhere. Even if it's just at my place or theirs, I love just being with people!

The mood I'm in occasionally determines where I want to hang out though. If I want to dance and listen to good music I will go to a fun bar or club. If I don't want to talk but just want someone with me I'll go to the movies. If I want to talk but sit down I prefer a coffee house or place to eat. It all depends on the mood...

When Being Responsible Sucks!

For the past several years my husband and I have been making a conscious effort to get out of debt. Now, as responsible of us as this may seem, I feel like it has reeked havoc on our friendships :( You see, saving all the money to pay off the debt has meant no nights out, cutting back on attending sporting events, skipping lunches and happy hours and more. I'm the type of gal that loves going out as frequently as possible and for more than two years I've felt more like a hermit than a socialite. I want to be a socialite AND be debt free.

The funny thing is every day my hubby and I get closer to paying off that final student loan or that final credit card bill but we've been in the shadows for so long we fear all of our relationships will be harder to mend when we come out to play again.

Sure, we've done as many free and dirt cheap things as we can, but the loneliness of it being just us is sometimes breath taking. How can you have the best of both worlds?

Write about the last time you connected with a friend.

The last time I connected with a friend...Last night I hung out with one of my friends at the Casino. We both braved the crazy storm outside and managed to get through traffic so we could meet up for dinner and we chatted about work and our families.

I am grateful for any time I get to connect with people because in my line of work I'm usually at home or in a wi-fi hot spot by myself. It makes for very lonely times and I'm one of those people that needs interaction as frequently as possible.

I'm looking forward to fulfilling my goal of having my husband work with me and making enough money to have more nights out with friends and making more friends.
