Where is your most comfortable place to write?

My most comfortable place to write is my bed. I prop up a bunch of pillows, put my lap desk in my lap and add the laptop and I'm all set to write! The trouble is that it is so comfortable that I often get pretty sleepy and end up just putting the lap desk and laptop on the night stand and fall over into the fluffy pillows and fall asleep.

The most practical place for me to write that is still pretty comfortable (but keeps me awake) is my living room. I have a desk set up against one of the walls in front of the television and a big comfy office chair to sit in with a fluffy footrest at my feet. I love sitting there, listening to music and really getting in the zone.

The least comfortable place to write that I am doing all my writing at lately is at high top table in the cafeteria at my husband's office. The comforting thing about coming to his office to do my writing is knowing he is in the room next to where I'm sitting and on his breaks he can come out and hang out with me.

My dream spot to write though is on the road. My goal is to write from the road in an RV traveling all over the country (or on a plane/train headed to another fun destination)!

Do you look at your home as a space of comfort?

I look at some parts of my home as a space of comfort and others as a place for chaos and clutter. I've been working on this for a while, but I definitely feel like I need to speed up my process of getting rid of the clutter. There are so many things I hold onto because I'm a pack rat with hoarding tendencies. There are a lot of things I could easily live without but it's like I fear letting go of them will leave me lacking something. My favorite spots in my home have hardly anything in them. There is such comfort in a spot lacking clutter. It may not feel cozy, but it feels organized and that makes me smile.

Once again a prompt is making me want to clean my home more and declutter....should probably get on it!

Describe the most comfortable piece of furniture that you own.

The most comfortable piece of furniture I have is my XL Bean Bag. Okay, it's not actually called a bean bag. It's actually called a FuF, but I insist it is basically an oversized awesome bean bag regardless of its true name!!!

It's filled with memory foam chunks in a large pillow covered in a suede casing and when you fluff it up it is one of the most comfortable things to lay in or sit on. When the large pillow inside is pulled out of its suede cover and flattened it is as big as a king size mattress. It's not as thick as a standard mattress but it's certainly king size and very comfy to sleep on (I've done it on more than one occasion).

It holds extra comfort value because it was the first piece of furniture my hubby and I purchased together. We over paid for it I'm sure because we got it at one of those kiosks at the mall, but as soon as we sat down it it we HAD to have it. We also bought the matching foot rest which is filled with a king size pillow.

Virgin Sangria Recipe


I've said it before and will say it again- Just because I've decided to live a sober lifestyle doesn't mean I'm giving up mixed drinks! I found an awesome mocktail recipe for Virgin Sangria (below) that I'm dying to try. As soon as I make another coupon list I'll be heading to the store to buy the materials to make this yummy looking drink. According to reviews it's a hit. Looking forward to trying it :)

What's your favorite mocktail recipe?

Virgin Sangria (Source for Recipe)


Ingredients:

- 3 cups unsweetened grape juice
- 3/4 cup apple juice concentrate
- 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
- 1 small unpeeled lemon, sliced and seeded
- 1 small unpeeled orange, sliced and seeded
- 1 small unpeeled apple, cored, cut into eights
- 1 3/4 cups club soda or 1 3/4 cups sparkling water

Directions:

1 Combine all the ingredients except the soda/sparkling water in a large pitcher.
2 Stir well, and chill.
3 Add soda/sparkling water just before serving.
4 Serve over ice in wineglasses.

What is the most comfortable room in your house?


My bedroom is the most comfortable room in my home. I have lots of fluffy blankets and pillows on my bed. I love lots of pillows and they just make me so comfy. My bed isn't as comfy ad I wish it was but all the pillows and blankets make it my favorite room to be in. I am mainly in there for sleep though because I can't stand being in there without my husband. He goes to bed later than I do, and I miss him like crazy while he is in the living room. I have often stayed up way to late in the living room just to be in the same room as him. I'll be sitting in my chair falling asleep and quite uncomfortable in body but so happy and comfy in heart just because he is in the same room. Funny how these prompts are making me see just how much I feel comfort because of him. Now I'm all warm and fuzzy just because I'm thinking about him. Cue the "awwwwwww" :)

What is your biggest motivation for leaving your comfort zone?


Getting what I want in life is by far my best and biggest motivation for leaving my comfort zone. I am uncomfortable making phone calls, taking phone calls, talking on the phone, etc... However, I will pick up the phone and make a call to get something I want.

It's also not very comfortable to get dressed and leave my home in the mornings when I could just stay in my fluffy pillows and blankets and write from the comfort of bed. However, it's way too easy for me to fall asleep, so I force myself out of bed and into the car to go with my husband to work so I'll write because I know that doing this is getting me one step closer to my dream of being a traveling writer and photographer. 

It's sometimes more comforting to eat comfort foods than healthy meals, but I often over do it and then am uncomfortable in my body. I'm uncomfortable working out, but it's the only way to get the body I want.

What I want is not always comfortable to go after, but getting it is one of the best feelings in the world and I take comfort in THAT!

How do you make yourself feel comfortable when you're far from home?


I guess the best answer to this is I talk to my husband. If he isn't with me, I'll call him. He feels like home to me and regardless of where I am talking to him transports me back to the comfort of being "home"

I first heard this quote on the show the hit ABC show Revenge:
"Where we love is home - home that our feet may leave, but not our hearts." - Oliver Wendell Holmes

This quote resonated with me in the biggest way!!! I love this quote soooo much. My husband feels so much like home to me and as long as I have him with me, I'm home and comfortable.

Wake Up Without Caffeine?



So, I just  watched the video on Yahoo! entitled Mansome 182: STAY AWAKE FOR DAYS WITHOUT CAFFEINE. Upon watching this video, I became excited at the prospect of being able to stay up to complete a deadline sans coffee or soda, but at the same time I am hesitant to accept everything in the video.

For example, it says that your body can acclimate to being awake 6-8 hours taking a 20 minute cat nap and then being awake 6-8 hours taking a 20 minute cat nap and continuing this process until you are ready for a full night's rest. Personally, 20 minute cat naps induce mini-comas for me when I'm super tired.

I did agree with drinking more water to wake yourself up as I site here with 3 bottles in front of me even though I am dog tired from a rough night.

For me, the best thing to stay awake while I work on deadline is music.

Do you do your best work when you're feeling comfortable or when you're feeling a little uncertain?


I do my best work when I'm forced to. What I mean is when it's zero hour and it has to be done and its do or die time I churn out work quickly and efficiently. I get in a zone that can't be described and often leaves me with writer's amnesia. In other words I forget everything I've written as soon as the words have left my fingertips. Unfortunately, this is when my work feels like work.

The work I enjoy the most though is done when I'm comfortable and not in a hurry. It's so much nicer to just be lackadaisical and float through the posts, articles and pages I'm writing... It's not always as efficient and frequently requires extra editing, but it's the most enjoyable.

Virgin Strawberry Daiquiri? Yum-O!!!





Who says you need alcohol to have a yummy drink? Not too many people I'm guessing, but it became standard practice for me for a while there to just order a fruity cocktail to get my fruity fix. The other night I went out with a girlfriend and because I've decided to live a sober lifestyle I ordered a virgin strawberry daiquiri to get my fruity fix. Ya know what? It was actually better than the strawberry daiquiris I've had with alcohol. I suspect it's because there wasn't anything taking away from the delicious strawberry flavor. There's your "well duh!" moment for the day. 

As of today I'm  9 days sober and with every passing day I feel more and more confident that I'll be just fine living a sober lifestyle. With every passing day I'm feeling less and less that I desire alcohol. I'm starting to get over the habit of just ordering a cocktail because I'm out. 

The funny thing is I swore I'd never get addicted to alcohol, but I could definitely feel myself getting to addicted for comfort. The words "Man, I need a drink" were starting to come out of my mouth way to frequently. I'm replacing those words with "Man, I need to meditate" and "Man, I need to take a walk." Just 9 days later I'm amazed how empowered and how much happier I feel! So, with sweet tea in hand-> Cheers!

When was the last time you did something that made you uncomfortable but was ultimately worth fighting through those feelings?


I did an extreme diet for four months and it sucked so bad! It was ultimately worth it because I dropped 50 pounds. Sadly, I went back to my old eating habits and gained it all back, but losing the weight initially felt so good.

This time around I'm not dieting nearly as extremely as I was before, but I am watching what I eat a little better and forcing myself to walk more (One step at a time). I'm not dropping weight nearly as fast as I did in that four month period, but this time around I think the steps I'm taking have a higher probability of sticking because although they are still not 100% comfortable, they are easier and the healthy lifestyle I'm hoping to achieve is worth fighting for!

I don't push myself nearly as much as I probably should to leave my comfort zone. If I did I probably would have achieved a lot more of the things I want out of life! I need to get the courage to hear the word no, because at least the means I tried. I need to get more comfortable with exercise because that's better for my health. I need to get more comfortable with trying new foods because I might like them. I need to get more comfortable with doing things that scared me because I might not only enjoy them, but I might find new things I'm good at.

I do carry tissues on me all the time, but I've not yet seen a stranger in distress that needed one where I could provide them one. Sure, I've seen folks crying or sneezing but it's always been someone across the street or across a large room making it seem more rude than decent to attempt to offer a tissue to them. I have given them to friends and family in their moment of need, however.

I do remember a time when someone gave me some tissues. I don't recall what I was even crying about. I just remember a sweet old man coming over and handing me a box of tissues and telling me everything would be okay. It was such a simple gesture, but it instantly made me feel so much better.

What do you do to give comfort to others?


Depends on the situation. If they need someone to talk to, I listen. If they just need company to eat with, I'll sit with them.

Two people in my life are struggling with some problems right now. I have been sending sweet photos and funny photos there way and sending them encouraging text messages. Anything I can think of to just bring a smile to them and warm their heart.

One person in my life is lonely and depressed lately. I've been there if they need to talk, sat with them to watch TV, gone out to eat with them, even just sat in the same room with them doing nothing just to be there.

Sometimes just a smile or a kind word is all someone needs to feel comfort. Sometimes a unexpected small gift like a cup of coffee or their favorite candy bar or a private facebook message is all it takes to give someone the comfort they crave.

I agree to an extent. However, I feel like we can also find comfort with those who disagree with us and growth among those who agree with us as well.

In the sense that is always easier to feel like you fit in with like minded individuals I can see how it's comforting to be among those who agree with us, however, if you are truly secure in your beliefs and feelings you should be able to be comfortable with anyone that you are hanging out with. Then again, I am not sure that a lawbreaker would feel comfortable surrounded by law enforcers. So, with that said I suppose that you can truly only be comfortable with folks you disagree with if you have enough folks surrounding you that do agree with you.

I feel like regardless of whether folks agree or disagree with you there is always room to grow. Being with like minded folks enables the growth of emotional feelings of acceptance and fondness for those people. Being with folks that disagree with you gives you mental growth in that they give you a new way of looking at things.

If you had to be trapped in an elevator, which friend would you want trapped with you and why?

First of all, the very thought of being trapped in an elevator scares the crap out of me. Therefore, my choice would be to get stuck with my husband because we've been watching a lot of MacGyver together and he was a boy scout and would help us find a way out of there quickly. I can see us working together to climb our way out of the trap!!!

In the unfortunate event we couldn't get out, I know he would also help keep me calm until help could arrive or the elevator moved again.

Who do you like to see when you're feeling uncomfortable who instantly makes you feel grounded?

My husband! No matter what I'm going through, no matter how rough things get, my husband always, always, always, makes me feel better. He makes me laugh through tears and calms me down regardless of any situation I'm in.

No one has ever made me as happy as my husband. I'm known for being able to be incredibly happy but that comes with a severe opposite of when I'm low, I'm crazy low. My husband pulls me back up and brings me back to life with ease. Just seeing his face makes me smile.

We constantly are saying/singing "You are my sunshine, my only sunshine, you make me happy when skies are gray" EVERYDAY, "You'll never know dear, how much I love you, don't you take my" FRIKKIN' sunshine away!!!! It's our spin on an oldie that describes exactly how we feel!

My Deepest Regret....


My biggest regret is how often I have neglected to live in the present moment. Rather than enjoy every single day to it's fullest, I was always thinking about upcoming things. I can't wait until I get to high school became I can't wait until graduation became I can't wait until college became I can't wait to get married....you get the idea....

Too often I have looked forward to something rather than being happy with my current state of, well, being. I keep saying things like I can't wait to go to Europe, I can't wait to get a place of my own, I can't wait to be blah blah blah.... If I died today would they put on my tombstone "she couldn't wait for this"? That's a scary thought. Am I just going to keep fast forwarding my life until that final day of my life comes? I don't want to live like a person rushing to die!

I realize that I have taken many things for granted. So, I'm planning to do something I've never REALLY done before and that's stop looking forward. Yes, I've said this in the past, but I've got to commit to living in the current moment and being 100% content with where I am right now.

I've got a lot of things I want to do, but planning to do them should not be all I think about. This way of thinking has kept me in a deep depression that I hide from the world. I constantly think about the things I haven't done, haven't achieved, haven't received, and it keeps me feeling a sense of lack that makes me so sad.

I should instead be looking at what I HAVE done, what I HAVE achieved, what I HAVE received and be grateful for the abundance of things in my life I overlook and take for granted daily.

No more regrets! I forgive myself for always trying to fast forward my life and am excited to be here today and be here every day from now on. I will keep working towards my goals and dreams but I will not center my life on the future anymore. I will be grateful for all that I have right now and be grateful for all that I receive in each moment for the rest of my days. Tomorrow CAN wait, let's enjoy today while today is still here!

Do certain smells make you feel instantly comfortable?

Yes! The smell of Elizabeth Arden's Red Door Perfume is one of the scents that instantly makes me feel comfortable. My mom wore this all throughout my childhood and anytime she hugged me I would smell the scent on her clothes and it would transfer to me. The smell feels like a warm embrace to me and instantly makes me feel better.

Another one is probably going to sound strange but the smell after someone has smoked in a car or some other closed confined space is usually comforting. My Granny Betty and Granny Pat both smoke and when I smell the scent of a space that has recently been smoked I'm reminded of them and feel the comfort of visits with them all through my childhood. I only got to see them about once a year growing up because we moved to Florida from Kentucky when I was just a year old and I don't get to visit them as often as I'd like to now, but that scent brings me back to those visits and the happiness that came with them instantly.

What Do You Want to Promote the Most?

Lately a question I've been asked WAY too much is "What do you want to promote the most?" When I reply asking what folks mean by that they imply I have to choose between promoting ONE of my websites, my photography business OR writing eBooks for a living. To that I say- why can't I do it all?!?

Yes, I understand the thought process most folks have. Do one thing and do it well and have the other things be hobbies, but if the common goal among all the projects I'm working on is to be a traveling writer and photographer- why can't I promote EVERYTHING I'm doing? Why should I have to choose. All of my sites including Tampa Bay Freebies, The Famous Ashley Grant, Living the Secret, and We Are Full of Bull are all set up on Google AdSense and are all technically linked together via my Blogger profile. So, to me this means that when I promote one, I'm kind of promoting all of them. Right? Besides, even if it doesn't promote ALL of them, does that REALLY matter?

What do you think blogger pals, writers, readers, etc? Can I have it all or is it REALLY best to choose one thing and promote it the most and leave the rest as hobbies when I have "spare time"? Chime in with a comment! Would LOVE to hear your thoughts!!!

What makes you reach for a comfort food?

This is a tough one to answer. Sometimes it's just the need to go back in time to the moments I felt the safest in my childhood. When I "grew up" and moved out on my on I became acutely aware of how false the sense of security really is and realized just how much my parents were protecting me from the harsh truths of the real world. The good don't always get the best, the bad sometimes win and some people are innately evil.

However, when I reach for a comfort food, all negativity seems to disappear if only for the duration of time it takes me to eat my meal. For those precious moments all is right in the world. In those blissful minutes there is plenty of food, plenty of money, plenty of whatever I need at the moment. I am transported back to happy times and I feel love and happiness in those comfort foods.

What is your biggest comfort food?  Share the recipe if you have one.

Three different dishes are tied for my biggest comfort food!
- Eggs sunny side up with layered biscuits
- Grilled cheese with with Campbell's Bean with Bacon Soup
- Beef pot roast with mashed potatoes

Anytime I'm looking for comfort one of these three recipes will usually be on the menu. I can't decide on a favorite. In fact, the most comforting day possible would be to have all three- the eggs for breakfast, the soup and sammich for lunch and the beef for dinner. MMMM.... now I'm salivating. I'm going to have to make this meal plan happen soon!!!

Which would you rather have: a super-soft pillow or a warm, fuzzy blanket?

Both! Duh! However, if I really have choose one I'd rather have a warm, fuzzy blanket than a super-soft pillow. The fuzzy blanket can be both if you cuddle up inside it well enough. Plus, it's a lot easier to sleep with no pillow than it is without a blanked when you are cold. I know this because I've actually dealt with both options on a couple of occasions.

The only time my decision would be the opposite is if it's hot where I'm going to be sleeping. Then, I'd choose the pillow over the blanket.

Do you still sleep with a stuffed animal now?

Sort of! LOL! For a while I slept with a large white tiger stuffed animal because it was bigger than my pillow and so fluffly to lay on. Now the only stuffed animal I sleept with is my Rocky the Bull USF Pillow Pet! It is a great way to show team spirit and it's a pillow more than a stuffed animal. My mom actually bought it for me for Christmas a couple of years ago. My hubby and I keep it in the car so that if either of us need a quick nap we have it.We share one car so there is a lot of time spent in it so having the Rocky the Bull USF Pillow Pet is a nice item to rest our head on.

This was such a fun experience. My pal Meredith Walusek and I took a trapeze class in Clearwater! She fared much much better than I did, but it was so cool trying it out nonetheless!!!

Did you have a favourite stuffed animal or lovey as a child?  Tell us about it.

I had lots of favorite stuff animals as a child. I still have most of them actually. One of them is this adorable teddy bear wearing a jacket and when you shake him he squeals. The funniest part about this bear? When I met my husband I learned he had a stuffed animal very similar to this one. It's a little bigger and doesn't squeal, but it's a teddy bear wearing a jacket nonetheless. What are the odds I would end up marrying a man with the same type of favorite stuffed animal that we both still owned? We are soooooo meant to be :)

With spring coming into full swing, I’m starting to see advertisements pop up everywhere: “Are you bikini ready?”, “Lose 20 pounds by Summer!”, “Lose 5 inches in 5 days!”.
