#NaBloPoMo December 2013 Prompt for Monday, December 23, 2013
Which is better -- a small Christmas tree or a large Christmas tree?
Depends on the size of your place! I live in a small apartment and so a small tree on my dining room table is all I need. However, if I lived in a home with more square footage, I'd probably want a much bigger tree.
I will say this though, my tree doesn't hold all of the ornaments I've collected over the years. They have to stay at my mom's house on her tree because I don't have room for them. I like my mom's big tree because almost every ornament on it has a history. Each one of mine is dated for the year we got it. We have had a tradition of my sister and I each getting to choose an ornament for the year ever since we were old enough to pick one out for ourselves. I remember how excited I used to get trying to find that perfect one that reflected my personality or at least something I liked for the year.
For a few years I lost the excitement of that tradition. Then, this year I went with my mom to pick one out and ended up finding a lovely pack that had four in it. Purple for me, green for my mom and then my sister will be able to choose between the other two. These ornaments were so pretty, simple and elegant, but just going with my mom again to pick it out was special to me.
I'm still not 100% certain I'm going to have children, but if I do- I plan to let her (oh yes! it better be a girl. ha!) pick out an ornament every single year. I guess by then, I'll need a bigger tree to hold all of mine and hers.
This year my husband and I celebrate 10 full years and 11 Christmases together. My gift to him was one hand painted ornament for every Christmas we have spent together. Perhaps I'll be needing a bigger tree sooner than I thought ;)
