What Do You Want to Promote the Most?

you can have it all

Lately a question I've been asked WAY too much is "What do you want to promote the most?" When I reply asking what folks mean by that they imply I have to choose between promoting ONE of my websites, my photography business OR writing eBooks for a living. To that I say- why can't I do it all?!?

Yes, I understand the thought process most folks have. Do one thing and do it well and have the other things be hobbies, but if the common goal among all the projects I'm working on is to be a traveling writer and photographer- why can't I promote EVERYTHING I'm doing? Why should I have to choose. All of my sites including Tampa Bay Freebies, The Famous Ashley Grant, Living the Secret, and We Are Full of Bull are all set up on Google AdSense and are all technically linked together via my Blogger profile. So, to me this means that when I promote one, I'm kind of promoting all of them. Right? Besides, even if it doesn't promote ALL of them, does that REALLY matter?

What do you think blogger pals, writers, readers, etc? Can I have it all or is it REALLY best to choose one thing and promote it the most and leave the rest as hobbies when I have "spare time"? Chime in with a comment! Would LOVE to hear your thoughts!!!

  1. I think it depends on your personality. If you can multitask well and tend to get bored easily, it might be better to try to manage several projects simultaneously. I personally tend to get overwhelmed and have a hard time focusing if I have too many things going at once so I tackle one thing at a time or several with each thing allotted its own block of time.

  2. I think it's just right to promote all of your sites. If I were in your shoes, I'd do the same thing. But don't stress out too much! Just have fun blogging and eventually, more readers will come across your precious works :)

    1. The only time I get really stressed is when I get grief about how little money I'm making right now. I finally got to start living my dream of being a professional blogger in that I get paid to write, but it's like if I'm not making MORE I'm not good enough. Ugh!

I agree with you though- I should just have fun and eventually more readers will come across my awesomeness making me rich and famous :) Thanks for your comment :D

  3. I find that if I invest in too many things, I end up giving too little to each thing. I toyed with starting a secondary blog for a while, but have decided to shelve that idea for now so I can devote more time to my primary blog and see what kind of growth I can achieve.

    1. To be honest, this does happen to me too. I end up investing more time in some things than in others, but at the end of the day I love contributing to each of my projects when I'm in the mood to and love that I have the ability to change courses at the click of a button. thanks for your comment! :D

  4. My immediate answer is a resounding "YOU CAN HAVE IT ALL!"

I love the enthusiasm of the desire and would not want to stop that flow. Go for it!

What I've found in life though is this.....if any one of your passions really "took off", then you really would not have time for the others.

Take me for example.....I have a pretty vast background in business, accounting, finance, credit repair, taxes, entrepreneurialism, negotiations, marketing, business start ups, internet marketing, social network marketing, and many areas of consulting and coaching (to name a few.)

Even though I have many friends and associates who want me to help them with budgeting or credit repair or facebook marketing or accounting...I am so busy doing my life coaching, I really don't have time to do those other things even though I love them, too.

Do I some times end up helping a friend with some such of those things....Yes. Do I promote that I do all those things? No. Who would believe me anyway? Except maybe those who know me well. And they tell enough people to contact me as it is.

In the end, it is your decision. I would just suggest that you set up some parameters for yourself in the area of when you will know that you are living the life YOU want and see which of those helps you achieve that in joy.

    1. love your thorough Reply Kathy! I must say if one of my passions took off I'd have no problem letting the others fall to the back burner, but I guess my thinking is I'll just keep everything going until one really takes flight and go from there. I love every project I'm working on anyway so why not keep going for all of them until it's not fun anymore or like I said until one passion takes over?

  5. Hi Ashley,

I would say go for it ALL! That certainly seems to be what excites you at this moment. As time progresses you may find some that you want to focus on more and can naturally gravitate towards them.

The markets/end-readers for each are probably different and may come in from different places. But for now I would focus on your loves and build it. If at some point some take off more than others or you feel yourself stretched you can prioritise.

    :)

    1. Love it! Yes. I'm just going to keep going for all of it until I gravitate towards one thing, something makes me ridiculously wealthy or both! :) Thanks for your comment!

  6. I'm sure that lots of people think I blog about too many topics, but I think if you promote your name, that is your brand, and everything can branch off from who you are. In other words, the more famous you become, the more all of your topics will be visible to the public via Google searches or people linking in to your content.

    1. I agree Susan! When I'm promoting my name that IS my brand so I'll just do what I like and if folks don't like it they don't have to follow me or my blogs ;) Thanks for your comment!

  7. To all the doubters and naysayers I say look at some of the most successful entrepreneurs and most of them are involved in many different projects. Look at Jay-Z, Mariah Carey, Justin Timberlake, Taylor Swift...just to name a few. These people all have music in common, but they also have perfumes/colognes or make-up campaigns or clothing lines, or TV shows they are judging...you get the picture. Can you imagine telling Jay-Z just to stick to music because it's what he does best? Or can you imagine telling Taylor Swift not to be in the cosmetic industry because she should be focused on song writing? Doubtful. People who say negative things are actually just projecting their OWN fears onto you. Speaking of OWN - didn't Oprah Winfrey have a TV show, a magazine, a book club, and then decided to add her own network to the mix? Yeah - we can certainly have as much or as little as we want. We are multi-faceted beings with more than one way to express ourselves. Keep up the good work Ashley
