Pinterest Project: Valentine's Day!

This is a Valentine project I found on pinterest. Pin is here: http://pinterest.com/pin/188517934371651656/ and initially came from this site: http://papervinenz.blogspot.com/2011/02/hi-everyone-this-is-last-of-my.html.Downloaded for use on http://www.thefamousashleygrant.com/ and http://www.tampabayfreebies.com/

This is a Valentine project I found on Pinterest. Pin is HERE and initially came from THIS SITE.

I just had to post this because I think it is an adorable Valentine gift idea for my husband. I got myself a deck of cards, I got some paper and glue and I'm actually working on my list of 52 things I love about my husband now. This is already a really sweet project for me because its fun realizing all over again all the things I love about him.

Consider doing this project for your spouse or boyfriend. It could make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside!

Pinterest Project: Paper Wall Art

The after of my attempt to do the pinterest project of the Paper Wall Art (found here: http://pinterest.com/pin/188517934371651676/). Uploaded for use on http://www.thefamousashleygrant.com/

My inspiration was found HERE on Pinterest and it was so simple and easy to do! It didn't come out too well in the picture but my favorite part about my wall art is that two of these sheets are glittered so it just shimmers in the room. Glitter makes me happy!

Materials I used.
+ Two stryofoam pieces 36" X 12"
 - I got these instead of the 6 12" X 12" pieces because cutting them myself was MUCH cheaper. $6 each for the two pieces that I got versus $18 for 6 individually cut pieces. Grant it the pieces I got were a little thinner but it worked out better for me because I was able to get thinner ribbon which was cheaper anyway! Besides that, I also used a 40% off coupon for each piece to save even more. Making the total $7.20

+ Two spools of 1/2 inch ribbon brown ribbon. If I had been smart and gotten the spool with more yards at Michaels I could have saved a few dollars but my mistake was I got a 3 yard spool at Joann's for $1.99 but then had to go back and get more. I was at Michaels thinking I could pick up the same thing but they only had 10 yard spools for $2.99. If I had just gotten the one at Michaels first I never would have needed the one from Joann's (Sure only a $2 savings but still!)

+ 6 pieces of 12" X 12" scrapbook paper
  - These were on sale at Joann's 5 for $1. That meant I had to buy 10 because the individual prices applied if you didn't take advantage of the sale. Considering the 6th piece would have been $0.79 alone I opted to get 10 pieces and set 4 of them aside for another project.
+ Regular glue ($1 at the Dollar Tree)

The rest was cake!
All I did was cut the stryofoam to size, glue the paper to each styrofoam piece and then glue the ribbon around the edges.

To hang- I used a 6 piece framing kit from Joanns I got for $1.49 but while hanging learned (and should have known-duh!) that double sided tape was really all I needed but I guess the stability of the framing kit makes sense. And voila! I now have a color coordinated wall art set that matches the decor I want in my room for just over $16! (That was the cost of a single 12" X 12" print that I kind of liked.)

This cost would have been under $15 without the framing kit and extra ribbon.

My favorite part about this project is if I ever get tired of the paper I can just glue another sheet on top and it will only cost me $2 to get 10 more sheets (as long as I get them on sale again). Of course, the cost will go up if I have to change the ribbon too, but $5 for change is okay with me!

Project! Putting My Picture Frames on the Wall

organization project for my frames. Uploaded for use on http://www.thefamousashleygrant.com/

I've been so inspired lately to do some fun things around my apartment. Seeing all the organization ideas, home decor ideas and crafty solutions on Pinterest have been making me want to take my living space from just an apartment to feeling more like home.

I found these two wood pieces at the recycle center at my apartment complex. A guy had broken his futon because he had to get it out of his apartment but then couldn't put it back together to take to his new residence since he broke it too much to get it out. So, naturally I had an idea and jumped at the chance to take the wooden pieces and my framing project began.

First, I tried gluing ribbon to the back of frames to tie onto the boards and then hang behind my sofa. It was up and I loved it and then slowly but surely the glue failed on every frame.

After many more failed attempts I opted to tie the ribbons to the frames and then tie them to the boards and ultimately hang them behind my sofa. Now, all of my frames are in one spot and have cleared a couple of shelves and become a fun conversation piece for me and my husband to enjoy.

I can't wait to do another project!

Pinterest Project: Stacked Organizer

I originally saw this Stacked Organizer on Pinterest and decided to try it myself.

BEFORE: The materials I used were a small plate and a large plate that I had. I received a new set of plates for Christmas so these ones needed to be repurposed! I also used Gorilla Glue ($4.99 at Michaels-used 40% off coupon), Black Shiny Spray Paint ($3 at Wal-Mart) and a Candlestick holder ($1 from the Dollar Tree). It took two coats of black spray paint to cover all those flowers!

I love the final product! It looks awesome in my bathroom :) I plan on doing lots more projects on Pinterest. Follow me on Pinterest HERE

Word Are Amazing Things

I was reading the Road to Domestication blog that a former editor of mine writes and one of her posts struck me in a way that can only be described as completely overwhelming. I became a blubbering mess within seconds of reading something she wrote because it hit home so hard I couldn't breathe.

The funny thing is, and I told the author this, that I know in the back of my mind her blog exists but I often forget it's there but somehow seem to stumble upon it when I need it the most and her words are so full of emotion and passion, but they are just words.

Words are amazing things. They can incite laughter, they can cause anger and they can cause a fully functional person to go into a complete fit of emotion.

Words can take a sane person and make them so angry they can become physically ill and have a stroke. This happened to someone very close to me. After a hurricane scare in Tampa her boss said some very mean words to her causing her to physically react and have a stroke on the office floor and end up in the emergency room and have a subsequent hospital stay for a few days.

Words can take a sad person and make them laugh so hard they can't see through the tears. My husband knows exactly how to do this to me. I can be depressed as hell and he will say something to me that might not even be funny to anyone else and get me laughing to the point of being unable to breathe and have my face turn redder than a tomato.

Words can take a happy person who is having the best day ever and hurt them so badly to the core that they don't know if they will ever recover.

The words, “She's dying,” “He doesn't love you anymore,” “I want a divorce,” “She's cheating on him,” “I broke the vase your mother bought you,” “Will you marry me?”, “Why did the chicken cross the road?”, “A funny thing happened,” and on and on we go...they are all just words. Jumble them in different ways and the effect they have on people changes drastically. Sometimes two people can hear the exact same words and both react completely opposite from each other.

One of my English teachers in high school always said, “When the heart kicks in, the head shuts down.” Its amazing how often words can make our heads shut down.

Words are amazing things. They should be chosen carefully and used wisely.
