Never Give Up- No Matter the Obstacle!

I saw this story and photo on facebook and just had to share it! Never give up my friends! No Matter the Obstacle!

"One day a farmer's donkey fell down into a well. The animal cried piteously for hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do. Finally, he decided the animal was old, and the well needed to be covered up anyway; it just wasn't worth it to retrieve the donkey.

He invited all his neighbors to come over and help him. They all grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt into the well. At first, the donkey realized what was happening and cried horribly. Then, to everyone's amazement he quieted down.

A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally looked down the well. He was astonished at what he saw. With each shovel of dirt that hit his back, the donkey was doing something amazing. He would shake it off and take a step up.

As the farmer's neighbors continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it off and take a step up. Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well and happily trotted off!

Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds of dirt. The trick to getting out of the well is to shake it off and take a step up. Each of our troubles is a steppingstone. We can get out of the deepest wells just by not stopping, never giving up! Shake it off and take a step up.

Remember the five simple rules to be happy:

1. Free your heart from hatred - Forgive.

2. Free your mind from worries - Most never happens.

3. Live simply and appreciate what you have.

4. Give more.

5. Expect less from people but more from yourself."

Thirsty Thursday- Chocolate Chicken

chocolate chicken
Today's drink is called the Chocolate Chicken. This delicious concoction is quite potent because of how much alcohol is in it. However, it goes down smooth and tastes really good. The recipe was found here and you can make it yourself too. The only thing different from the one below and the one in the photo is we added a swirl of chocolate syrup to the glass and we shook the ingredients before pouring them into the martini glass. Yum!

Quantities for one drink:

-1/2 oz Crown Royal® Canadian Whisky
-1/2 oz Wild Turkey® Bourbon Whiskey
    -1/2 oz 151 Proof Rum
    -1/2 oz Amaretto Almond Liqueur
-1/2 oz Dark Creme de Cacao
    -1/2 oz Kahlua® Coffee Liqueur
    -1/2 oz Bailey's® Irish Cream

      Blending Instructions:

      • Fill glass with ice, add all ingredients and fill the rest of the glass with cream!

Article Spotlight: My First Time Making Thanksgiving Dinner

Ashley Grant Preparing a Thanksgiving Turkey
Photo of me fixing Thanksgiving Dinner- taken for tbt*

I've always admired my mom for cooking Thanksgiving dinner. My sister and I would wake up on Thanksgiving morning and the aromas of the meal would be throughout the house. Then, dinner would finally arrive and what seemed like an endless amount of food would be served. Continue Reading...

      The BEST Sangria Recipe EVER

Photo by me, taken for in 2011
Over the weekend my mom had a party and I wanted to bring Sangria for all the girls to enjoy. Thanks to an awesome bartender's tip I got my hands on a delicious Sangria recipe that was such a hit at the party that everyone asked for the recipe. Here it is:

      What You Will Need:
      - 4-6 shots of Brandy (depending on how strong you want the liquor content)
      - 4-6 shots of Triple Sec (depending on how strong you want the liquor content)
      - 2 shots of OJ
      - 2 cups of Sprite (if you would rather have more alcohol sub Champagne for the Sprite.)
      - 1 3Liter Bottle of Carlo Rossi Sangria Wine
      - 2 cans of fruit cocktail in juice (NOT SYRUP)
Since it produces enough Sangria to make two pitchers, to make it easier on myself I poured half the Carlo Rossi Sangria Wine into one pitcher and the other half into a second pitcher. To each pitcher of wine I added 2-3 shots of brandy, 2-3 shots of Triple Sec, 1 shot of OJ, 1 cup of sprite and 1 can of fruit cocktail in juice. Don't drain the can of fruit cocktail! Add the whole thing. The sweet juice takes away the bitterness of the wine so there isn't an aftertaste.
Mix it all up and let it sit for about 4-6 hours prior to drinking. Stir it before serving.YUM!

Article Spotlight- Ghost Hunting in the Tampa Bay Area

Halloween is fast approaching and even though ghost hunting happens all year round, the number of tours and hunts will increase for the spooky season. Ghost hunting can be scary but you ain't scared of no ghost! If you are looking for ghosts in the Tampa Bay area, here's a list of spots to get your paranormal hunt started.

      1. The Tampa Theatre

It has long been believed that The Tampa Theatre in downtown Tampa is haunted. The Tampa Theatre hosts tours frequently and there are reports of unexplained movement, orbs, shadows and disappearances. Many of the staff have their own tales of things that have happened a throughout October the theater will be inviting people to learn more about the ghosts that allegedly haunt the building.

Article Spotlight- My First Pumpkin Facial

The Famous Ashley Grant gets a pumpkin facial for the first time
Halloween is just around the corner and pumpkins are already being sold in stores. When most people think of pumpkins they think of carving them, baking pumpkin seeds or even making pumpkin pies. Odds are getting a facial isn't exactly at the top of the list.

I've never been much of a fan of the flavor of pumpkin, but I have always loved the smell. I heard from a friend that Salon Lofts in Tampa was offering pumpkin facials, and since I'd never had a facial I figured trying it with the scent of pumpkin would be the perfect way to be pampered. Image Disappearance

You may notice a bunch of images doing a disappearing act on this website over the next couple of days. Unfortunately this image disappearance is due to my current photo hosting company doubling its prices so I'm transferring all of the images to a new company. So, if you see images disappear, I'm aware of the problem and trying to fix it as quickly as possible.

I'm No Longer a Substitute Teacher!

On one hand I am thrilled to be writing this post; on the other hand I’m not. I’m thrilled because I never liked being a substitute teacher and everyone who knows me knew that this was the case. Substitute teaching was stressful, depressing and made my tubes tie themselves in a not.

Due to the video above (and kids finding it and sharing it) I was asked by the office of Professional Standards at the School District of Hillsborough County whether I would like to remove all of my un-kid friendly videos and find a way to keep my job as a substitute or if I would like to resign/be fired. I opted to resign immediately. So, at 1:40 p.m. in an office I did not want to be sitting in on a borrowed blue legal pad I wrote the fastest resignation letter I’ve ever written in my life that basically stated I’d rather keep my job as an entertainer than to continue my position as a substitute teacher.

I never wanted to be a substitute teacher in the first place. I only signed up as a fall back plan. I thought if I couldn’t get a story for the news or a photography gig to make money I would just substitute teach to pay the bills. Sadly, I didn’t want to end on these terms but it is for the best. I acknowledge my videos on Youtube are not kid friendly. I never intended to cause a ruckus and never wanted to upset anyone.  I'm sorry to anyone who has seen my videos and been offended by anything I've said.

Now, it’s time for the next chapter of my life- one where I hustle at being famous a little harder because I have no fallback plan. Time for Operation Get Famous to get a swift kick in the ASH so I can make more money doing things I love and avoid the things I hate doing.

You CAN Save Your Life if you Act Fast!

Everyone around me lately has advice to offer and a class to teach and it feels like all I get lately is emails offering me a way to save my own life, my business, my marriage, my family for $500 but if I act now it's $499.99. I feel like unsubscribing from every list I'm on, cutting through the bullshit and just focusing on what I want and figuring out how to get it and then getting it.

What exactly do I want? I want to be a traveling problogger that makes enough money to live on while traveling the world.

How can I get it? Sell everything I own and take off with just my laptop, my camera, my husband and some clothes. Oh yes, and MONEY. I need money to travel from place to place, get food to eat and have a place to snooze.

What am I lacking right now to make my dreams come true? MONEY

How can I get what I lack? Build up all of my blogs in terms of traffic and find a way to make money off of them and then keep doing that while I travel.

What's in my way? Laziness. Pure and simple. I sit around with big dreams and let the fact that I haven't accomplished them make me depressed. Then, instead of doing anything about it, I sit around some more. Then, I get more depressed about the fact that I have been lazy so I keep being lazy. The funny thing is though when I stop being lazy and just get shit done I feel happier.

So...what have I learned? I don't need any more coaching. I know what I want and how to get it. Now, I just need to DO IT! The longer I sit around looking for the easy path and for someone to just hand me a million dollars the longer it will be until I become a traveling problogger.

That's all. That's my rant for the day. Unsubscribing from all the self help site lists I'm on and just going to start actually helping my self starting NOW.

      Help Me Save A Home!

Someone very close to me is facing foreclosure due to medical woes that made things difficult for some time and I want to do everything in my power to help this person. They have been there for me through some of my toughest times and now it's time for me to give back to them. Because of this my mom (Terry of Terry Ann's Treasures) and I are teaming up to sell crafts, host fundraisers and do a couple of garage sales to help this person through their difficult time. We are hoping that by working together we can raise enough money to pay the legal fees and the other fees associated to fight the foreclosure, save the home and help this person get back on track.

How can you help? I've added a donation button to the top right hand corner of my page and you can donate any amount you want. I'm also going to add some crafts for sale to this blog in the coming days and 100% of the proceeds will be going to this fund. If you want to send a check you can make them payable to Ashley Grant and send to PO Box 340237, Tampa, FL 33694.

Have any ideas on how to help? I'm all ears and would love to hear any ideas you may have on helping me save this person's home.

Why the vagueness on who the person is? I'm sure you can understand that getting behind like this is embarrassing and this person feels humiliated and so bummed by their situation and said if I was going to help to please not identify them. I will tell you this person is a hard worker, has sacrificed themselves for the sake of others many times and deserves to have someone help them now in their time of need.

It should be noted this person is employed and working full time and trying to work side jobs to make ends meet. They just need a hand in getting back on their feet.

I'm so excited about helping this person. Thank you in advance for your help! I appreciate it more than you know and I can't wait to post that we saved the home.

      You Can Trust Me

      trust me image by businessgrow

Recently someone promised me that I could help on a BIG project. It was guaranteed to make everyone involved a lot of money and having me be part of it would not only be fun, it would help me get more work. Then, when it came time for the project to begin, they stopped returning phone calls and emails because they chose to not work with me after all.

I was really hoping to be part of this project. No, I didn't have a contract, but I was excited at the prospect and had a promise from a VERY reliable person (so I thought) that if this project did in fact get started I was the perfect person for the job. Then...nothing...

Needless to is one of those days where I'm feeling like there isn't anyone out there I can trust. I have folks promise me the world and then leave me in the dust when it comes time to honor the promises they have made. I have always tried to do the things I say I will and strive to make everyone happy in my relationships. People know they can rely on me and that if I say something I will do it. I want to collaborate with people on projects and do big things but it gets really frustrating when people keep burning bridges and burning me. I know that in business you are not supposed to take things personally and you are supposed to check your emotions at the door, but the levels of betrayal I've experienced in the past year have made it very difficult to not get emotional. Am I alone? Am I just being too girly?

I'm at a point where I feel like I should just do everything in my power to not have to work with anyone on anything. I feel like I'm back in high school with a group project and know that zero hour will come and everyone will leave the task to me because they know I refuse to take an "F" even though it means I'll be up all night doing the project by myself. I feel like I'm the only person I can trust to get anything done. Everyone is filled with excuses and only cares about themselves, so should I just care about myself too? Should I let others down and quit offering assistance on projects? I don't want to be that person. I don't want to hurt people. I want people to like me, be able to rely on me and expect things to get done when I'm on board. I want people to trust me, but is that the problem?

Guess I Should Stop Working From Home

      Work From Home image

ok. It's official. I can NOT be at home and expect to get any work done. I have gotten more accomplished working at coffee houses, in libraries and other Wi-Fi hot spots than I EVER get done at home. It seems when I am home all I do is work on laundry, the dishes, catching up on Facebook gossip, play stupid Facebook games, check my email 1,000 times and basically any task I can come up with to avoid work. Because of this, I think I'm just going to have to make it my mission to rarely be at home during the days from now on!

Do you work from home? Does it work for you? (see what I did there? Play on words! LOL I crack myself up!)

The Best Birthday Gift I Got Today

      its mah birthday

Today the best gift I received was from my husband and it wasn't a product you can buy at a store, it wasn't flowers you can pick, it was the reminder that I should be grateful for everything I already have. You see, he did get me a few DVDs I've been talking about FOREVER for my birthday and he has taken me out to eat a few extra nights, but the reason this reminder to be grateful for everything I already have was so significant is because I've been taking it all for granted lately.

The truth is, since we wed six years ago things have not exactly been a breeze. We've struggled financially, we've had ups and downs with my career and his, but through it all we've stayed together and stayed in love. It's easy to forget just how lucky I am when I'm seeing things go wrong. However, as much as I say I need to remember to be grateful daily and have an attitude of gratitude I spend more time complaining about what I don't have then being excited about the things I do.

This morning I woke up, I sat up in a nice bed complete with covers that kept me warm throughout the night and a fan that blocks the outside noises allowing me to have a good night's sleep, I then put my two feet on the floor and stood up on two legs and was able to walk into the closet and get ready to begin my day. After picking out clothes from a big selection of things to wear I got dressed, put on perfume, put on deodorant, even put on makeup and then went into the kitchen to prepare snacks to bring with myself for the day. Lastly, I went downstairs got in my car and drove my husband to work.

Family, friends, health, food, clothes, a bed, a place to stay, a car and so many other things I don't really think about that when I stop and think about them I realize how truly thankful I am to have. The next time I get caught up in stuff I want I hope someone is there to remind me again about the things I have, because that is the most awesome gift!!

      28 Things I’ve Learned in 28 Years

      birthday images 2

This is an update to previous post from last year ;)
I was going to wait until I turned 30 to post something like this, but everyone who knows me knows I’m impatient and that when I set my mind to something I just want to do it and not wait! So, here are 28 things I’ve learned in 28 years:

      1. There is good and bad in the world. Being with like minded individuals can either lead to progress or destruction. Make sure you are in the productive group.

      2. Not everyone is out to get you even when it feels like the world is against you.

      3. Everyone is dealing with problems and your issue may not be as bad as theirs. The nicest home can be filled with the most troubles.

      4. You can’t trust everyone you meet, but keep close the people that you can.

      5. You can forgive everyone that hurts you, but you should never forget. With that said, it should be noted that revenge is not always sweet. Sometimes it’s actually really bitter.

      6. What’s right is not always popular; what’s popular is not always right. (all sources I found said this quote is by Albert Einstein)

      7. Being the cool kid may not be all its cracked up to be. Recently I went to dinner with two amazing women who opened my eyes to the world of being the cool kid. The amount of upkeep to always be trendy, have the perfect clothes, perfect hair and coolest gadgets just sounds exhausting. I’d rather get that extra hour of sleep than have every hair in place thank you!

      8. A smile burns more calories than a frown and it looks better too. A bonus: smiling while unhappy somehow makes it hurt less.

      9. Some people are innately evil and should be avoided like the plague. There really are some people who will beg, borrow and steal their way to the top and don’t care who they have to step on to get their. As soon as you realize who they are, pluck them out of your life!

      10. Always look out for number 1, but don’t step in number 2 either. (movie line from Back to School with Rodney Dangerfield)

      11. When you stop looking for mister right you find him. I didn’t see my husband Jeremy coming but am so glad his path crossed mine.

      12. Speaking before thinking has massive consequences but when the heart kicks in, the head shuts down.

      13. I didn’t need to take as many math classes as I did. My calculator really can solve all my math problems. P.S. love the tip calculator on my phone!

      14. Someone will always be bigger, better, stronger, smarter than me. All I should really focus on is being the best I can be and following my dreams.

      15. I didn’t gain weight overnight and can’t expect to lose it overnight.

      16. Living a healthy lifestyle is imperative and eating crap makes me feel like crap. Note to self-must find ways to get cheaper healthier food :)

      17. The best job in the world is one that you love, can make money at and are actually qualified to do. When it stops being fun its time to change it.

      18. Money is not the only key to happiness but it sure feels better to cry in a car with air conditioning than one without…especially in the Florida heat. Nonetheless, I’d rather be broke and happy than rich and miserable.

      19. Dogs are better than cats for some people and I prefer dogs. No hate mail please-its my preference and what I learned about me!

      20. Sharing is caring except when it comes to my toothbrush. Mom also always said never share my drinks, my makeup or my hairbrush.

      21. Karma is a bitch sometimes but she can be sweet too. Do unto others as you want done to you.

      22. One red sock can ruin an entire load of white clothes but pink is one of my favorite colors.

      23. If at first you don’t succeed destroy all evidence you tried. Never give up, never surrender.

      24. Being an adult is fun but responsibility blows sometimes!

      25. I should have stopped wishing I was older and enjoyed every minute of the present. Too often I look forward to stuff in the future and neglect the wonderful moments of now.

      26. Wine is fine but liquor is quicker; either way hangovers suck!

      27. Everything happens for a reason and we may never know what that reason is. Some things in life have to be accepted and this is one of them.

      28. You don't always have to know how something works to believe in it...For example, I don't know how electricity works but I use it and I do know this- A man can cook with electricity and electricity can also cook the man (lesson learned from Bob Proctor)

      undertow bikini babes
This photo was taken by The Famous Ashley Grant for Metromix at the Undertow on 8.13.11

You may or may not have seen me posting about this on my personal Facebook page, but I've started a new project. I created a website called Tampa Bay Bikini Babes.  Why? Well, it's simple really, I like taking pictures, girls in bikinis are almost always hot to look at and I thought it would be fun to share some eye candy with the world. I don't plan on taking all of the images that will be posted on this site, but I think it will be a fun project to work on. So, if you like barely dressed hot chicks feel free to check out the site and bookmark it! "Like" Tampa Bay Bikini Babes on Facebook HERE!

My First Time: Trying Nutella Crescent Rolls

      nutella crescent rolls
As much as I've talked about Nutella, I've only had it once and it was on a crepe on the MOSI Chocolate Festival. After the festival I bought a jar and then it sat in my pantry...and it sat and it's about to frikkin' expire so it was time to make something with it and I found Nutella stuffed crescent rolls HERE!

These things were so delicious OMG! It was like a foodgasm in your mouth. You MUST try these if you like Nutella even a little bit.  They are like chocolate stuffed doughnuts.

      • So simple too. All you need is one can of crescent rolls*, 1/2 cup sugar*, 1 tsp of cinnamon* and a small thing of Nutella.
      • Preheat the oven according to the crescent roll instructions.
      • Mix the cinnamon and sugar while you are preheating the oven
      • Coat the crescent rolls in the cinnamon and sugar mix
      • Place a spoonful of Nutella onto each roll and roll them up and place them in an ungreased baking sheet
      • Bake according to the crescent roll instructions.
      • Let them sit about five minutes and then plate and enjoy while warm.

      OMG!!! SO YUMMY!!! ENJOY!
      * I subbed reduced fat crescent rolls and organic sugar
      * I only used 1/2 a tsp of cinnamon because too much gives me indigestion LOL

I Actually Want Experiences Not Things

      world map

I want to travel the world, eat all kinds of amazing foods and enjoy wild adventures all over the world more than I want things. I want to eat at restaurants and try delicious foods, go zip lining, go camping, go snorkeling, enjoy awesome views and so much more. Things don't matter to me as much as experiences do.

I'm Grateful to Have a Home

I'm sitting in International Plaza in a comfy booth with a.c. on reading the tbt* and sipping an ice cold Diet Pepsi and feeling very grateful not only for this moment but also that I have a home to go back to at the end of my day. On page 15 of the tbt* is a picture of the town of Manila- a poor community in the Philippines. Tropical Stom Saola ripped apart these people's already minimal living quarters and the image reminds me of how lucky I really am.

This morning I argued with my husband over how late he stayed up fearing he wouldn't make it to work on time. The truth is I get upset over stupid and petty things like that too often. I am grateful that this image was there to remind me how fortunate I am. Thank you for my home and all the luxuries I take for granted.

Article Spotlight- Dining at the Original Hooters

If you have ever eaten at a Hooters then you know they are a lot a like wherever you go. The tacky Christmas Lights, the girls in familiar attire of orange shorts and white tops, the sports on the television sets, the wooden panels and hard wood floors and of course beer and wings. Hooters has been a fun dining spot since 1983 when the first one opened at 2800 Gulf to Bay Blvd. in Clearwater.

I had a BLAST at Tammy Levent's Birthday bash last night! There is nothing quite like getting to show off a new makeover after months of hard work losing weight and I got to do just that by being one of the "models" in Tammy Levent's fashion show at her birthday party on Saturday, July, 21, 2012.

One of the coolest things about being in the show is that before I even knew I was going to be in it I had added that to my list of goals I wanted to accomplish for my 101 in 1001 challenge!

Here is the final product after a couple of hours of transforming from no hair, no makeup, no accessories into the full package:

      WikiHow's How to Get Famous

In an effort to become the Famous Ashley Grant I've started reading articles about how to get famous and happened upon How to Become Famous in 5 Steps from Wikihow.

Oddly enough the 5 steps are not written items 1 through 5 but upon further review there are in fact 5 steps listed:

      1. Understand that there is more than one way to become famous. This is my favorite tip! They even give ideas of ways to become famous. Unfortunately I'm not sure which ones will work for me...

        • Write a best-selling novel. -Working on it, but I'm thinking eBooks will be my actual path to being a best seller

        • Perform a popular song. - Nah, I may have won a singing contest at Wal-Mart, but I highly doubt this will actually get me famous. Although, I reckon I could try it and throw it on Youtube...anything is possible I suppose.

        • Become an actor. - Easier said then done. I don't even know where to begin in terms of finding a place to audition. Again, I think I'll just attempt a few Youtube videos.
        • Invent something useful. - But I'm not that smart!!
        • Become a model. - They said I'm too short. LOL Runway models start at 5'7" and I'm only 5'4.5"
        • Start a successful business. - If I had a successful business I would just travel and forget about fame and don't you have to have a level of fame to get success??
        • Do something heroic.- Like what?!? I can't fly, I can't breathe underwater, I don't have x-ray vision and last time I checked I can't lift more than 50 pounds without squinting. What makes a hero?
        • Become an elected official. - Oh HELL no. Too many skeletons in my closet to attempt being an elected official. I prefer being allowed to drink, dance, gamble and make out with my spouse in public thank you.
        • Excel at professional sports. - Nope! Not gonna happen. Not now, not ever! I can't catch a ball even if you are standing right next to me
        • Marry someone already famous- I'll have to check with my current husband in regards to how he feels about this. My guess is he will not be okay with this considering he loves me and I love him...
          2. Make sure that becoming famous is your ultimate dream. DUH! Of course it is!
          3. Do something inspirational so others can look up to you.
          4. Build upon one of the four techniques above to apply it in your desired field of fame. The four techniques they are referring to are from item #3 which they actually call item 1 under the subhead "Be Unique"
          5. Put yourself out there. This is my second favorite tip. I put out, er I mean I put myself out there whenever I can. ;)

There is ALWAYS Something to be Thankful For

          I am thankful

Today, I'm feeling so very grateful and thankful for my career. In the past five years I've gotten to do things and see things I don't think I ever would have if I had stayed on the path I was on before deciding to become a writer and photographer. In 2005 I was still an education major and believed that my path was to become a high school social studies teacher. I knew I could find a way to be content with it but something always felt off.

Luckily, one of my professors, my art professor in fact, told me she saw me in a different career. She visualized me as a member of the media and suggested I take a mass communications class as an elective. Figuring I had nothing to lose I took Professor Rick Wilber's Introduction to Mass Communications and fell in love with ALL things media! After that I was done with education and changed my major to Mass Communications with emphasis in Magazine Journalism.

In February 2007 my very first article was published in the USF Oracle. Since then I have loved every minute of being a writer and photographer. There have been ups and downs but at the end of the day this is everything I could have ever dreamed of and more. I love my job and I look forward to every story I write and every photograph I take! I also look forward to actually becoming The Famous Ashley Grant!

Sure, I'm not 100% where I want to be in my career yet, but I know that if I continue on my current path I will have everything I want and get to keep doing the things I love to do. I do still want to teach, but I think my path will bring me to grad school to teach at the college level and instead of teaching social studies I'll teach journalism, but that is several years off. I have so much more I want to do before becoming a teacher.

I will write books, I will write more articles, I will take a crap ton more photos and I will BE the Famous Ashley Grant. I am so thankful I get to do this as my career and I am so grateful that my husband Jeremy has supported me in my dreams since I decided this would be what I would do for a living!
